I really appreciated your summary in the author's note, that really helped me understand the context of what was going on! I also like how you made a subtle reference to the talkative tortoise using the brother! Very clever! You did an excellent job with this story. Grammatically it looks great to me, and I don't see any errors! The way you broke up the dialogue and story made everything flow nicely and was very easy to read. My favorite part in the story is your writing about the young girl trying so hard to not talk. You did a fantastic job bringing that scene to life! I also really like how you made this story something that directly relates to your childhood, that makes it really special. It sounds like that sister and brother had some pretty typical sibling rivalry going on, and that definitely hits close to home with my childhood! Great job!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05889698860511772046noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3094499237689214536.post-48977017828191368432015-04-27T10:15:51.055-05:002015-04-27T10:15:51.055-05:00Gloria,

Nice job making it to the favorite portfolios. : ) You definitely deserve it!

As I began your story, I immediately knew it was awesome. You started out with a scene that connected to your audience because (most likely) we have all been in a situation similar to this. If someone always made their curfew, then they can relate by being chastised by their parents (because I doubt anyone has escaped that).

You kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out quickly what Ferra’s punishment was. And when I read it I cracked up. Hahaha how funny! I love your modern-day style of this story and also really liked that it was mostly dialogue. You did a great job explaining the original story in your author’s note.

The only suggestion I have is breaking up your author’s note into summary and reasoning why you wrote the story. It isn’t super necessary, but may help the reader’s eye.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04019195036744534724noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3094499237689214536.post-3828125864619184202015-04-26T19:30:12.881-05:002015-04-26T19:30:12.881-05:00Hey Gloria! I read some of your other stories but I hadn't come across this one so I thought I would give it a look and I really like it! I love the back and forth dialogiue, especially. I think dialogue is a great way to keep people more interested in the story and also, its a great way of showing how a character is feeling, their emotions, and their features. I think the story between the dad and daughter that you wrote in a modern setting was very cute! I will agree that it is for sure not as serious (picking up dog poop) as the actual story but it makes seem awful since the girl doesn't know how long she's going to have to do it for. I will have to agree with one of the previous comments about putting the author's note at the beginning. It was an enjoyable read but it probably would have been even more so if I had sort of an idea as to what was going on. But overall, good job!K.https://www.blogger.com/profile/08290562964554006459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3094499237689214536.post-59010746452304127132015-04-26T17:23:30.760-05:002015-04-26T17:23:30.760-05:00I think that picture is fantastic! It took me a long time to realize that the things I wrote did not have to have this specific structure. I don’t know if I ever really got out of that mentality, I really struggled to be creative in this class. I really did enjoy taking this class though!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14371348040644449871noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3094499237689214536.post-20801389623706290662015-04-26T16:04:22.099-05:002015-04-26T16:04:22.099-05:00Gloria great job! Your writings were all done so well and they show how much creativity you have. Also, your layout is very good and makes your blog very easy to explore. I read a couple of your stories and each one had a great element that you were able to showoff. As Christina said, the twist at the end of the songbird story was unexpected but it brought the reader right back into the story. Usually I like to know exactly who I am reading about and how they relate to the stories that we read in class, but your story seems to work pretty well the way it is so I am on the fence about it, maybe you could put your author's note at the beginning and that would tell me all I need to know without altering anything. Now that I'm through the story (I write these as I read rather than after I read) I definitely think the author's note should be at the beginning because I'd never read the original and had absolutely no idea where you were going with this because it's entirely different from anything in the reading unit. The lessons learned are the same, but the girl having to pick up dog poop has no relationship to it. It makes me SO HAPPY that this course was a good experience for you, and I love this phrase: "beauty fell out." That is so great! If people can just open up to whatever that creativity space is for them, there is so much beauty just waiting to fall out. Thank you for that phrase, this post, and also for that lovely graphic. The way you organized the dialogue helped the story flow, and it was extremely easy to understand. I'm not familiar with the original story since I'm not reading the Un-Textbook, but your version is so relatable, and it's hilarious! I definitely had to pick up dog poop as a kid and I HATED it. It is just nasty! But it needs to be done so the yard doesn't get nasty. That Dad is pretty clever thinking of this way to punish his daughter. It's not cruel, but it's harsh enough to really leave an impact on her! I'm a little confused by the author's note describing the original story. I assume the the Fairy gets eaten every day until she's married, but I'm not sure! I like your version, and it gives a modern story of what happened between the fairy and her father. In this case, that was Santanu. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to be married to a woman who drowns not one, but seven of your children. And the worst part is, he set himself up for failure by agreeing not to question her at the beginning. That should have been a big enough red flag but NO. I also like that you wrote this from a first person point of view, almost similar to a journal entry. We are able to see his emotions towards her and how he was overwhelmed by love at the beginning that he didn’t mind advancing with her agreement. I like that he warned everyone to stay away from women who are crazy! Really cute theme here. courtneysearleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09669318899555398262noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3094499237689214536.post-64736365606494334412015-04-12T16:52:18.626-05:002015-04-12T16:52:18.626-05:00Gloria,

Whether that be from peers, society, parents, ourselves…I just feel like there are so many things that become “life or death” for us, when really it is just being overdramatized. I was planning on reading it this past week, but got caught up in things and didn't get around to it. So it was nice to have your essay and storytelling post to read and get a little synopsis of it!

The stories of Siddhartha sounds truly incredibly. I agree with you that we are often very desensitized to the traumatic events that happen in the world. I'll admit, I'm even that way sometimes. And then sometimes, I cry at the drop of a hat (or some commercial on TV...really?!). But we all have our own ways of coping with things and, sometimes, we just have to harden ourselves against the bad. It is a very interesting thing to think about it!
